Whom shall you serve this day?

Joshua 24:15

New International Version

15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

There are so many things to divide us today. When we turn on the television we can see the mockery of God’s plan for family (Husband and Wife procreating with arrows of the faith - our children and our legacy to the Lord). Yet, the TV tells you that is not the case. Usually fathers are usurped by the woman or made a laughing joke of the show.

If you know anything about the proceedings of the law, in our court systems, it always seems like the father (or in other cases, the husband) gets the shaft in most divorce proceeds? Why is that? Simple form is that the State could care less about you and instead they prefer to be “married” to the woman. Thus, the protection for the woman. There are instances where you find no fault states and that is a bad deal for both the husband and the wife and divorce is contrary to God’s will in our lives (except for the instances of adultery and/or abuse). Needless to say, I am digressing from Joshua’s point.

The other thing to note and to use the gift of critical thought with a biblical lens in a broken world (reference Ephesians 6, The Book of Revelations and Colossians along with Romans - okay, the Bible as a while). Whether we want to admit it or not, each and everyone of us were made to worship. As you look throughout our history we are born to worship. For some that worship is transfixed on a person, or persons. On things (statues and idols) and in some cases a deity. In the case of Joshua above, he brilliantly states that “but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

God has intricately created each one of us as we read in the Scriptures that we are faithfully and wonderfully made. We also read that God has knitted us together in our mother’s womb. So, then, why is the world so broken? So fallen? And so depraved?

As we read in the beginning God (the Triune God) created the heavens and the earth. And on the 7th day he rested. He, being Jesus, is the Alpha and the Omega - the beginning and the end. Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord (this is the final judgement). This means that every fallen angel (yes, there are fallen angels, who some refer to as demons) that rejected their creation order and followed Satan as they were cast out of Heaven.
Look around, look at what has been in the news as of late: Men and women (from all walks of life: Politicians, Actors, Media and the like) have been worshiping the god of either “self” or the “fallen angels” and have literally sold their souls for temporary gain(s). What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his own soul? The short answer it doesn’t.
Say what you will about conspiracies and or (use whatever term you dismiss the heavenly realm) but remember that we wrestle not against flesh and blood….
This is where you have heard it many times that the greatest task that Satan has ever done was to convince the world that he does not exist - well, he does. And to complicate matters even further, he really doesn’t care whether you worship him, other angels or the gods of this age - self worship! All of this to distract us from the true Creator of the Universe - God! The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The Triune God: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
If you have doubts with a lot of the information and emails and pictures and videos being released. Ask yourself this: Why the Children? Why the trafficking and sacrifices? Why do we see temples on islands and on TV shows that point to these islands? Why do we see demonic worship that is contrary to the will of God?

Whether we want to admit it or not, we all are created to worship. Whom shall you serve this day? Good (The Triune God) or Evil (fallen angels and the small “g”, the god of self)?

Jesus said that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. That no man comes to the Father, but through Jesus Christ. If you are unsure of what that looks like - say this prayer: Dear God, please reveal yourself to me. As I open your word (the Bible) please allow me the ability to hear from you. I believe that you son was born of a virgin, lived on this earth for 33 years, was tortured and beaten for my sins and was crucified. On the third day he rose from the dead conquering death. He now sits at the right hand of God the father advocating for those called to him. Dear God, I believe in your son, please save me, save my soul from sin and shame and fear and guilt, amen”
